DANBURY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in IOWA
Had a wonderful hour today talking by Skype to Grades 5 and 6 at Danbury Elementary School in Iowa this morning (7.3am Tuesday our time and 2.30pm Monday their time: 17 hour difference, which the kids found amazing) about my life as an author and in particular about my two junior novels WHO CARES? and WHO DARES? which are published in America by Kane Miller.
A fabulous mother at the school, Tammy Bellrichard, has organised an event entitled AWESOME AUSTRALIAN AUTHORS and I was fortunate enough to be able to talk to two classes at one time of grade 5 first and then grade 6, right in their classrooms. It was a fabulous hour of chatting.
Congratulations to Tammy for such an innovative initiative. Last year the school had an author who lived 2 hours away “visit” the school by Skype and then she thought “Why not Australian authors”? Kane Miller publishes several other Aussie Authors as well as me, including Susanne Gervay and Sally Rippin, who will also be talking to some of the student at Danville Elementary this week.
On Wednesday night our books will be for sale at the school’s Kane Miller Book Fair, so students can either borrow our books form the school library or buy their own copy. Brilliant. I’ve been to lots of places in the USA over the last 40 years but never to Iowa (where the Caucus is being held today! It’s also Ground Hog Day!!) so now I can say I have “visited” Iowa by Skype. So much fun.
Thanks Tammy and thanks also to the grade teachers and especially to our IT guru who “translated” questions and answers!
